Docteur en médecine (UPMC), Docteur en sciences (Université Bordeaux 2) et Habilité à Diriger des Recherches (UPMC), Pierre Chauvin est Directeur de recherche à l’Inserm. Après des travaux en vaccinologie et en épidémiologie de terrain dans des pays en développement (Sénégal, Côte d'Ivoire, Tadjikistan, Afghanistan), ses recherches à l'Inserm ont concerné la surveillance épidémiologique en soins primaires en France. Depuis 1997, ses travaux se sont orientés en épidémiologie sociale, d'abord dans des organisations non gouvernementales puis au sein de l'Inserm où il a créé et dirigé de 2001 à 2013 l’équipe de recherche sur les déterminants sociaux de la santé et du recours aux soins dans l’Unité 707 (Inserm-UPMC).
Il a créé l'Equipe de recherche en épidémiologie sociale (ERES) de l'Institut Pierre Louis d’Epidémiologie et Santé Publique (UMRS 1136, Inserm - Sorbonne Universités UPMC) en 2014 et l'a dirigée jusqu'en 2018.
Ses travaux concernent les inégalités de santé et les déterminants sociaux de la santé et du recours aux soins en milieu urbain, notamment dans l’agglomération parisienne. Il conserve un intérêt particulier pour l’étude de la santé et des besoins de soins des populations précaires ou vulnérables. Il est l’auteur ou le co-auteur de 11 ouvrages et de plus de 200 articles originaux dans des journaux scientifiques internationaux. Ses activités d'enseignement ont concerné l'épidemiologie de terrain en Afrique de l'Ouest, la santé publique en Afrique de l'Est et l'épidémiologie sociale à l'UPMC.
Il a été lauréat de la Faculté de médecine de Paris en 1989, du programme «Avenir» de l’Inserm en 2001 et du programme de recherche médicale de la Ville de Paris en 2005.
With a MD (UPMC) and a PhD in epidemiology and public health (University of Bordeaux), Pierre Chauvin is a tenured Director of Research at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). His career began in vaccinology and field epidemiology in developing countries (Sénégal, Côte d'Ivoire, Tadjikistan, Afghanistan). Then he conducted research in public health surveillance in primary care in France at INSERM. Since 1997, he has oriented his research in social epidemiology, first amongst NGOs, then back at INSERM where he created and headed the research group on ‘Social determinants of health and healthcare’ in the research Unit 707 between 2001 and 2013.
In 2014, he has created the present research group in social epidemiology (ERES) at the Pierre Louis Institute of Epidemiology and Public Health (Inserm - Sorbonne Universités UPMC) in Paris, France. He has headed ERES until 2018
His research interests concern the social inequalities and the social determinants of health and health care utilization in urban area, in the general population and also in different underserved populations. He is the author or the co-editor of 11 books and of more than two hundreds publications in international peer-reviewed journals. His teaching experience has concerned field epidemiology in Western Africa, public health in Eastern Africa and social epidemiology at UPMC.
He has been laureate of the Paris medical school in 1989 and awarded by the ‘Avenir’ programme of INSERM in 2001 and by the medical research programme of the City of Paris in 2005.

Maria Melchior is a Research Director at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) (ScD in Social Epidemiology at Harvard University). Her research focuses on social inequalities in mental health, with a particular emphasis on developmental trajectories from childhood to adulthood and intergenerational transmission. Most projects have relied on data collected in longitudinal cohorts in France (EDEN, ELFE, TEMPO) or in other countries (ELDEQ in Canada, DNBC in Denmark). She was awarded the Research Prize from the European Psychiatric Association (2012), the Early Career Award from the International Society of Behavioral Medicine (2004), and the Research Addictions Prize from MILDECA (2018). She is the author or co-author of more than 180 original publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Her research is funded by France's national research agency (ANR), France's Addiction Fund, and the European Union (H2020, ERC Consolidator 22021-2025).

Judith van der Waerden a obtenu son doctorat (2011) à l'Université de Maastricht, aux Pays-Bas, dans le domaine de la santé publique et de la promotion de la santé. De 2013 à 2016, elle a travaillé en tant que post-doctorante et chercheuse contractuelle au sein de l'équipe ERES, où elle a étudié les relations entre les facteurs sociaux, la psychopathologie et les conduites addictives au sein de familles ayant de jeunes enfants.
En 2017, elle a été nommée chargée de recherche à l’INSERM. Ses travaux portent sur l'identification des facteurs de l’environnement de vie associés aux difficultés psychologiques maternelles et paternelles, ainsi qu’au développement des enfants. Elle étudie également les mécanismes sous-jacents à la relation entre la santé mentale parentale et le devenir des enfants. Par ailleurs, elle s'intéresse au développement et à l'évaluation d’interventions visant à prévenir les problèmes de santé mentale chez les enfants et leurs parents.
Judith van der Waerden obtained her PhD (2011) at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, in the field of public health and health promotion. From 2013 to 2016 she worked as a postdoctoral researcher and research fellow in the ERES team, studying the relations between social risks, parental psychopathology and addictive behaviors and child mental health.
In 2017 she was appointed as a research associate at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). Her research focuses on identifying the role of moderating contextual factors and population-specific causal pathways in the association between parental psychological difficulties and children’s development. She is further interested in the development and evaluation of interventions that contribute to the prevention of mental health problems in children and their parents.
